A continuation of a foggy morning photo shoot in Brown County State Park, Indiana.

Another early morning photo shoot in Brown County State Park, Indiana. I got lucky this morning. It was a moderately foggy morning with heavy fog in some areas. Foggy mornings here are not unusual and I had hoped to get at least one foggy morning.

The last two images here are essentially the same composition, but the last one obviously has a foggier look. That is due to shooting it farther away from the tree line and having more fog between the camera and the trees.
One has to be careful when shooting in the fog and when editing the foggy images. It is not always easy to get the exposure right and editing can take out the effect of the fog, if over done. I can’t claim to be an expert at either of these skills, but fog surely can add magic to some scenes.

Early morning photos in Brown County State Park, continued.

Remains of trees laying where they fell in the forest among the trees that are still standing and maybe ones that took the place of their fallen comrades.

There is probably a story behind the distortion in that bent tree trunk. Maybe a life’s event deformed it, in the same way that life’s choices, obstacles or stresses might change a person’s life path.

This concludes this mornings shoot.
Until next time,

I went into Brown County State Park again early on the morning of October 28, 2023, first stopping at Ogle Lake. It was a bland sky morning, heavily overcast and no sunrise sky color. I made the image above, which is similar to ones made a couple of days earlier, except for the sky, then the blandness of the sky prompted me to leave the lake and wander through the park looking for better fall images.

Do you think I got enough leaf strewn roadway as leading lines in these images?

After my woodland hike, I drove to the old forest fire lookout tower on Tower Ridge Road in the Charles C. Deam Wilderness. There were quite a few visitors and I elected not to climb the tower to get a wide view over the forest. Instead, I hiked along Tower Ridge Road, shooting forest scenes along the roadway.

Today I drove down backroads heading generally in the direction of a state forest and a wilderness area. Along the way I stopped at a stream and shot a few images of the stream and wooded area around it.

Shortly after getting onto a roadway in a state forest, I parked in a pull out to have a look around. I did not plan to stay long, but wanted to see what this area had to offer in the nearby woods.

Even though it was late October, it was a warm day and mosquitos were buzzing around as I walked down an old forest roadway. Usually, mosquitos are not a problem here at this time of the year, so I had not brought insect repellant and frequent swatting and waving off mosquitoes was a distraction.

As I wandered along the faint roadway, it eventually turned into an official hiking trail. I walked quite a way along this trail. As I got deeper into the woods the mosquitoes became less of a problem, making stopping to shoot photos more pleasant.

This wraps up this morning’s shoot. Tomorrow I’ll investigate other area for fall photography in this part of Indiana.
